The Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) is launching an investment program worth 1 billion 308.5 million drams (over $3.3 million). This project will be reviewed at the upcoming meeting of the Public Services Regulatory Commission.

Out of the total budget of the program, around 548 million drams (more than $1.4 million) will be allocated for the functional expansion and modernization of the full-scale simulator for the second power unit of the Armenian NPP. An additional 347 million drams (more than $900,000) are earmarked for the acquisition of measuring laboratory instruments and other devices.

Furthermore, 167.7 million drams (more than $400,000) will be dedicated to enhancing emergency protection measures and the warning system in case of radiation or nuclear accidents.

Earlier, BMG reported that in June 2023, an interdepartmental working group was established in Armenia to oversee the construction of a new nuclear power unit. The operational life of the current Metsamor NPP has been extended until 2036. In recent years, technical modernization efforts have been underway at the plant to extend its operational life.
