Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has announced plans to create a new road network in the country.
He stated that a year or a year and a half ago, it became clear that the existing road infrastructure could no longer handle the traffic flow.
"For example, during trips from Yerevan to Ijevan (a city in the north of the country), traffic jams have become a common occurrence," Pashinyan noted during an inspection of roadworks in the Syunik Province.
He explained that the government has made a strategic decision to not just expand existing roads but to create new alternative routes. This will not only improve transport accessibility but also have a positive impact on the economic development of certain settlements.
Pashinyan emphasized that the roadworks in the Syunik Province are the first step in forming a new road network in Armenia, which will significantly improve the country’s transportation system in the long run.
It was previously reported that in 2023, 803 kilometers of roads were constructed, fully or partially repaired in Armenia, 556 of which were funded by the state budget.
