About 6.7 million tons of various goods were transported in Armenia in the first five months of 2022, a 9.7% growth compared to the same period of time in 2021,while the number of transported passenger surged by 41.3% to over 57.8 million, according to the National Statistics Committee.
During the period under review, about 4.4 million tons of cargo were transported by trucks, by 10.1% more than in January-May 2021; about 1.2 million tons by rail transport (1.8% rise ), another 1.1 million tons by trunk pipeline transport (19.1% rise ) and 6,400 tons by air transport (1.6% less).
In the first 5 months of the year, some 45.9 million people were transported by road transport (44.7% growth), 10.8 million by electric transport (26.2% growth), 1.1 million by air (82.2% growth) and 177,100 by rail (23.5% growth).
In January-May 2022, there were 1,487 traffic accidents in Armenia, 14.2% less than in 2021. Some 111 people were killed in traffic accidents (down 20.7%) and 2,110 people were injured (down 17.1%).
In the reporting period of 2022, revenues from postal and courier activities amounted to 6.2 billion drams ($15.3 mln), down 9.9% compared to the same period of 2021, ARKA reports.
