Following the resignation of the Chairman of Armenia's Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), the process of reforming the judiciary’s leadership has begun. The ruling party, Civil Contract, has already nominated its candidate to fill the vacant position on the council.

According to an official statement from the parliament, Alexander Sirunyan has been proposed for the open position.

This nomination comes after Karen Andreasyan, Chairman of the SJC, announced his resignation on November 18. The same day saw a series of resignations within the government, including key officials such as the Ministers of Internal Affairs, Territorial Administration, and Infrastructure.

Public attention intensified after Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan admitted in a televised interview on November 22 that he had personally "requested" the resignation of the SJC Chairman. This statement sparked debates about the judiciary’s independence.

Under current regulations, once the council’s full composition is restored, its members will elect a new Chairman of the SJC through a secret ballot. Representatives appointed by both the General Assembly of Judges and the National Assembly will participate in this election.
