As of today, high quality citrus of 27 000 t has been exported from Georgia and the season is not over yet, - Zurab Chekurishvili, head of National Food Agency told TV-program Business Morning.
“High quality citrus of 27 000 t is exported at a good price. This volume is 1000 t higher comparing to the same period of the previous year and the season is not over yet. Exporting process is being continued”, - Chekurishvili declared.
He also talked about the existing challenges in the sector and declared that “there are vast challenges”.
“Food safety and veterinary constantly face challenges. As for our activities, we have carried out 400 inspections in terms of food safety in 2012, while the figure amounts to more than 7 000 in 2019. These include planned, as well as unplanned inspection, supervision, checking of documents and etc. Food safety was a closed issue before 2012, which envisages principle “from Farm to Table”. However, 99% does not know this principle. Food safety was not inspected earlier”, - Chekurishvili declared.
