The festive season during the New Year is a period of celebrations which comes with higher than normal spending. As times have changed the majority of Georgians, enquired by BMG have tried to spend the same amount on New Year gifts as in the previous year, while looking for cheaper gifts.
The majority, 60% of our respondents have purchased New Year gifts only for children. 30% for children and other family members and 4% only for friends. 45% of enquired persons stated that this year the budget for New Year gifts is equal to the prior year. 25% said that they have grown their budget and the remaining 30% have been reducing their budget, as compared to last year.
Average budget of Georgians on 2020 New Year gifts amounted to GEL 400. With 51% toys were dominating among gifts, it was followed by perfume and cosmetics (15%) and consumer electronics (11%). 10% was shared by clothes and 4% was shared by books.
According to Statista, the highest spending on Christmas gifts in Europe last year was expected to occur in the United Kingdom (UK), where shoppers were expected to spend an average of 336 euros on Christmas gifts. Those living in the Netherlands were set to have the cheapest Christmas when it would came to gift-giving, with an expected spend of 122 euros. The European average sat at 193 euros for Christmas gifts.
