Azerbaijan Lags Behind in Managing Freight Capacity - Zurab Kvaratskhelia

Zurab Kvaratskhelia, founder of the logistics company Tradelog, emphasizes that one of the key issues in the dialogue between Georgia and Azerbaijan is increasing the flexibility of the Middle Corridor. He stated in an interview on "Analitics" that improving the competitiveness of the corridor requires complex cooperation between countries, and that Azerbaijan lags behind Georgia in managing freight capacity.

Kvaratskhelia pointed out that the main focus of the dialogue between Georgia and Azerbaijan is enhancing flexibility, which needs to be addressed by multiple countries, particularly Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. He emphasized that logistics is not a one-time process but a complex, multi-functional system involving transit routes, freight capacity, customs procedures, and handling congestion. For the Middle Corridor to remain competitive, all involved countries must align their efforts; otherwise, the process will slow down and the corridor will not be viable.

"In this situation, I don't foresee a reduction in freight volumes. On the contrary, I believe the volume will continue to grow. We just need to analyze the conditions—an established structure that works smoothly from Georgia, through Azerbaijan, and to Kazakhstan," Kvaratskhelia said. He added that while freight flow is increasing, Azerbaijan still struggles with managing the necessary infrastructure, such as ports and railways, which is key to improving capacity.

Kvaratskhelia also emphasized Georgia's critical role in the region, highlighting that proper strategic decisions and an effective response are essential for maximizing the potential of the Middle Corridor.
