The Georgian Business Association (BAG) and the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture held their first working meeting on the planned ban on plastic bottles. Both sides agreed that ecological goals should be achieved without harming the business sector.

According to BAG Executive Director Levan Vepkhvadze, the initial meeting was preliminary and focused on assessing the issue. He emphasized that there is a willingness to ensure that the regulation does not negatively impact businesses.

Discussion on specific mechanisms and alternatives will continue at the next meeting, scheduled in approximately one month. Several options may be considered to meet the state’s environmental objectives while protecting business interests.

Vepkhvadze highlighted that the main goal is a shared starting point between the ministry and the business community: achieving legitimate environmental targets without harming companies. The next meeting will focus on detailed mechanisms and alternatives that could balance these priorities.
