Bakur Mikadze has been appointed as the new head of the Georgian Land Transport Agency, following the resignation of former director Levan Gamkrelidze, who stepped down on July 15 “based on a personal statement,” according to the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development.
The nomination was presented by Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili, who highlighted Mikadze’s extensive leadership experience in the public sector, as well as his academic background. Mikadze holds a doctorate in law and international relations and a master’s degree in jurisprudence. He is also an associate professor at the University of Business and Technology and an assistant professor at the Georgian Technical University.
Minister Kvrivishvili emphasized the strategic role of the Land Transport Agency in strengthening Georgia’s transport sector.
“Georgia is at the crossroads of regional transit routes, and for stable and safe cargo service, a well-functioning infrastructure and effective management systems are necessary. The proper functioning of the transport market ensures the attraction of more cargo through the Middle Corridor, which will positively impact the country’s economic sustainability and revenues,” she said.
The Minister also underscored the need for greater transparency in the land transport sector and wished Mikadze success in his new role.
The presentation of the new director was attended by Deputy Economy Minister Guram Guramishvili.
