In January 2026, Georgia’s average balanced electricity price increased by 6% year-on-year, reaching 6.2 cents per kWh. Total balanced electricity consumption for the month grew to 700 million kWh.

In 2025, the average sale price for balanced electricity was 5.8 cents per kWh, reflecting a roughly 4% annual increase. The average import price was about 3 cents per kWh, influenced by Russia, which supplies electricity to occupied Abkhazia at a special rate, lowering the overall import price.

In total, Georgia purchased 576 million kWh of electricity in January, paying nearly $22.5 million - 157% more than in January 2024. The increase in import costs was mainly due to Turkey, from which the country unusually imported 119 million kWh of electricity, paying over $10 million, resulting in an average import price of approximately 8.6 cents per kWh. Imports from Russia totaled 389 million kWh.

Balanced electricity prices reflect the wholesale cost of electricity. The January increase indicates that electricity prices rose on Georgia’s wholesale market, affecting ESCO procurement costs.
