Germany will have a new ambassador to Georgia — Barbara Voss has been appointed to the post.
"Existing tensions weigh on Germany and the European Union's relations with Georgia. Nevertheless, Germany's active support for the country's democratic and pro-European course remains unwaveringly strong," stated the new German Ambassador, Barbara Voss.
Prior to her appointment as Ambassador to Georgia, Barbara Voss had been serving as Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Kolkata, India, since August 2023.
Her professional experience over the years is as follows:
2019 – 2023: Federal Foreign Office — Deputy Head of Division, Cultural Relations with Maghreb, Near, and Middle East Countries;
2015 – 2019: Federal Foreign Office — Desk Officer for International Counter-Terrorism Cooperation;
2012 – 2015: German Embassy in Islamabad (Pakistan) — Desk Officer for Economic Affairs;
2009 – 2012: German Embassy in Tel Aviv (Israel) — Desk Officer for Consular and Political Affairs;
2006 – 2009: Federal Foreign Office — Desk Officer in the Human Resources Division;
2005 – 2006: Attaché Training Program for the Higher Foreign Service in Berlin;
1996 – 2005: German Embassies in Lagos (Nigeria) and Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), as well as the Permanent Mission of Germany to the United Nations (New York, USA);
1992 – 1996: Federal Foreign Office — Desk Officer, Regional Division for Poland, the Czech Republic, and the Slovak Republic.
Barbara Voss studied at the Federal University of Applied Administrative Sciences (Foreign Affairs Department, Bonn) from 1986 to 1992.
