Batumi’s Municipal Inspection has launched the demolition of unauthorized structures along the Gonio–Kvariati shoreline. According to the agency, a total of 35 owners were notified, some of whom voluntarily removed their constructions, while others did not, prompting the municipality to begin dismantling the remaining structures itself.
“Demolition has begun on illegal and unsightly constructions along the Gonio–Kvariati coast. These include cafés, bars, bungalows, and retail kiosks. Batumi Municipal Inspection issued warnings to the owners of 35 such structures,” the inspection said in its statement.
Following the inspections, owners have already dismantled 12 cafés and bars and removed 8 kiosks. Demolition of the remaining 15 structures is now underway. The agency noted that if any owners fail to remove their constructions voluntarily, the municipality will proceed in accordance with the law.
Once the process is completed, the shoreline will be fully cleared and restored to its original state, the inspection added.
The demolition effort is part of a broader campaign that has been ongoing for several months across Batumi and its boulevard area. So far, the following objects have already been dismantled:
- Around 80 small commercial structures
- Nearly 25 food establishments (cafés, bars, clubs)
- Four branded beachfront zones
- Around 10 unauthorized extensions attached to cafés and bars
- The wedding house located at the entrance of the Boulevard
