Hotels in Gudauri are operating at around 60-65% occupancy during the summer season, according to Giorgi Kvitsinashvili, owner of Best Western Gudauri. He said the figure remains low, especially given that the resort mainly attracts group tourists, a lower-revenue segment for hotels.
Kvitsinashvili noted that Gudauri’s summer season is not dependent on the cable car and usually begins in mid-May, when international group tourism becomes active, with visitors from China, South Korea, Poland, and other markets.
He said the cable car mostly benefits day-trippers heading toward Kazbegi, while many tourists currently use Gudauri mainly as an affordable overnight stop.
According to him, the resort needs more tourism products, activities, and infrastructure to encourage longer stays. “Guests should find more than just a cable car — there should be experiences and attractions that make staying in Gudauri worthwhile,” he said.
The busiest summer months are July, August, and September, while October and November remain challenging due to weaker demand and the need for better flight connections and targeted tourism promotion.
