British Ambassador Gareth Ward has been summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia. This statement was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Maka Bochorishvili, during the program "Ghamis Kurieri" (Night Courier) on Rustavi 2.
According to Bochorishvili, they are demanding an explanation from the Ambassador regarding the grounds for sanctioning Georgian television channels.
"We have had communication with the British side. I expect the British Ambassador to arrive at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs tomorrow. We will demand an explanation regarding the basis for such a decision to sanction Georgian television stations. Beyond the fact that we are talking about freedom of speech, its standards, and the media—when it comes to sanctions, very solid legal grounds are required," Bochorishvili stated.
On February 24, 2026, the United Kingdom imposed sanctions on the TV channels "Imedi" and "Postv" on the grounds of spreading Russian disinformation.
