Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili announced that the Business Ombudsman's Office will be abolished and its functions transferred to the Ministry of Economy. This significant administrative change is scheduled to take place on January 1, 2026. Currently, the Business Ombudsman's Office operates under the Government Administration. Otar Danelia has occupied the position of Business Ombudsman since 2022, and the agency's current annual budget stands at 950,000 GEL ($351,929).
These changes are part of a broader set of legislative amendments currently under consideration by the Georgian government. Another major component of this package involves the abolition of the independent Anti-Corruption Bureau. This Bureau is expected to cease its autonomous existence and operations on March 2, 2026, and will subsequently be merged with the State Audit Office. The package aims to reorganise and restructure several key state agencies within the executive branch of the Government.
