Buy Only the Fuel You Need Right Now - Wissol

ვასილ ხორავა

Wissol’s General Director Vasil Khorava says that amid extreme volatility in global oil markets, both companies and consumers should purchase only the amount of fuel they currently need. Speaking on the TV show "Business Morning", he noted that buying in large volumes at today’s inflated prices risks leaving companies with costly inventories if prices fall. The same, he says, applies to individual consumers: “No one should build large reserves in such an unstable market—today’s formula is simple: buy only what you need.”

Khorava compared the fuel market to currency pressures on the lari: buying excessive dollars increases demand and worsens depreciation. Similarly, if companies over-purchase fuel when stocks in the market are already low, they accelerate the shift to newer, more expensive batches. He emphasized careful purchasing to avoid triggering further price surges within the supply chain.

Responding to questions about whether Russia’s gasoline embargo will affect local fuel prices, Khorava said Wissol will not be impacted, as the company primarily imports gasoline from Europe. “The price pressure comes from Platts, which continues to rise, not from the loss of Russian supply,” he explained, noting that the embargo will affect only those companies that relied heavily on imports from Russia.

According to Khorava, global oil markets continue to hit “negative records,” driving fuel prices in Georgia upward. He warned that April will likely bring even stronger price increases, as current retail prices still reflect older, cheaper inventories from the past two weeks.
