The Central Election Commission (CEC) has requested the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia to initiate an investigation into allegations of election fraud following the recent parliamentary elections.
In a statement, the CEC expressed its commitment to cooperating with the investigation and providing relevant information.
“Since the announcement of the 2024 parliamentary election results, the CEC has faced targeted attacks and unfounded criticism. Despite a positive assessment from the OSCE/ODIHR observation mission and an audit by an American company that found no flaws, both the President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, and representatives of some political parties have made baseless accusations against us,” the statement read.
The CEC emphasized that while existing complaints are being reviewed within the election administration, the widespread allegations of fraud require a thorough investigation to ascertain their validity.
“To determine the truth behind these statements made by the President and other politicians, a complex and objective investigation is necessary, which exceeds the election administration’s authority,” the CEC noted, urging the Prosecutor’s Office to take action.
The commission reiterated its willingness to cooperate with the investigation.
