Global Markets Strategy Note

Executive Summary

On march 11th the CHILE country ETF, ECH closed at USD 40.64

José Antonio Kast is one of the most prominent conservative figures in Latin American politics. Because of his political style and platform, some commentators frequently compare him to leaders such as Donald Trump in the United States and Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil.

Despite comparisons with populist leaders, Kast’s economic platform is actually strongly orthodox and pro-market. his policies are closer to traditional Chilean economic liberalism that developed during the Chicago School-influenced reforms of the 1970s–1990s.

This is one reason many international investors view Kast as market-friendly, and private wealth and private clients should pay attention.

Kast also attracts attention because of his German-Chilean heritage.

His father, Michael Kast, immigrated to Chile from Germany after World War II. The Kast family later became prominent in Chilean business and politics.

Another member of the family, Miguel Kast, served as a government economist during the military government of Augusto Pinochet.

Due to epic fury in Iran and the new world, Chile's equity market may be entering a new cycle of investor interest as political uncertainty fades and the global demand for strategic commodities such as copper and lithium continues to rise. Chile remains one of the most institutionally stable economies in Latin America, offering investors exposure to the global electrification trend through its dominant role in copper production.

Political Context

Following several years of constitutional debates and social unrest, Chile's political landscape has stabilized. The inauguration of the current leadership and the rejection of more radical constitutional proposals reassured investors that Chile's institutional framework, property rights, and open-market economic model remain intact.

Copper: Chile's Strategic Advantage

Chile produces roughly a quarter of the world's copper supply. Copper is essential for electric vehicles, renewable energy infrastructure, power grids, and AI data center infrastructure. As global electrification accelerates, Chile stands at the center of the next commodity cycle.

Lithium and the Energy Transition

Chile also holds some of the world's largest lithium reserves in the Atacama Desert. Lithium demand is rising due to electric vehicle battery production and grid-scale energy storage. This reinforces Chile's role in global clean energy supply chains.

Why Chile Equities Could Re‑Rate

Several macro catalysts could drive a re-rating in Chilean equities: political normalization, a potential copper supercycle driven by electrification, rising lithium demand, strong domestic pension capital, and global diversification away from concentrated US technology markets.

Chile in Global Asset Allocation

For diversified global portfolios, Chile offers exposure to strategic minerals, Latin American growth, and commodity leverage. The Chilean market provides one of the purest public equity exposures to copper in the global financial system.

Investment Conclusion

Chile combines strong institutions, strategic resources, and improving political clarity. If copper prices enter a sustained bull market driven by global electrification and AI infrastructure investment, Chile's equity market could become one of the largest beneficiaries among emerging markets.
