China Eastern Airlines is ready to increase flight frequencies to Georgia and consider launching additional services, Georgia’s Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development announced.

The statement followed a meeting in China between the airline’s Executive Vice President, Wan Qingchao, and Georgia’s Deputy Economy Minister.

The sides positively assessed the airline’s Shanghai-Tbilisi route, noting high passenger occupancy and growing demand.

According to the ministry, passenger traffic on direct flights between Georgia and China increased by 76% in 2025 and grew by a further 36% in the first nine months of 2026.

The Georgian side highlighted the importance of stronger air connectivity with China for tourism, investment, trade and economic cooperation.

The parties also discussed offering passengers additional tourist destinations in Georgia, as well as travel options through Georgian Railway and land transport services.

Georgian Railway Director General Lasha Abashidze also attended the meeting.
