The Charge d'Affaires of the People's Republic of China in Armenia, Chen Ming, highlighted the significant potential for bilateral cooperation in high technologies, noting the successful experience of supplying Chinese electric vehicles to the Armenian market.

The diplomat made this statement during a briefing at the international scientific conference "Modernization of China: Armenian-Chinese Relations," held at the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia on November 12.

"We know that Armenia places great emphasis on the development of high technologies, and China has significant advantages in this area. We are pleased to see electric vehicles imported from China on the streets of Yerevan and other cities of Armenia," said Chen Ming.

According to the diplomat, promising areas of cooperation include not only high technologies but also the green economy. He emphasized that there are other sectors that could be considered for the development of bilateral cooperation.

Chen Ming expressed confidence that such cooperation would help improve the living standards of the peoples of both countries and expressed hope for the active participation of high-quality Chinese companies in implementing joint projects.

Earlier, BMG reported that China is among Armenia’s top three trading partners. According to the Statistical Committee, in the period from January to September 2024, China ranked third in trade volume with Armenia, following Russia and the UAE, with a total of $2.07 billion. Trade with China increased by 34.7% over the first nine months of 2024.

Armenian exports to China saw a significant rise, growing by 281% to $907 million, while imports decreased by 4.2% to $1.16 billion.

Interestingly, despite the notable increase in trade with China, its share of Armenia's foreign trade dropped from 11.3% last year to 8.7% in January-September this year. This is due to the faster overall growth of Armenia's foreign trade.
