Château Mukhrani Palace, which renovation works stared in 2016, was officially opened today.
Château Mukhrani is based on the historical tradition of winemaking in Mukhrani region. This is the first and the only true Georgian royal Château, which unites four key components: vineyards, winery, palace and history.
It should be noted, in 2002, a group of businessmen, Frederik Paulsen, and his companions laid basis for restoration of the project of Château Mukhrani. The group intended to revive the estate to its former glory and re-establish production at Mukhrani, combining modern and traditional technologies. New investment group aims to create strong international brands, which will serve as a profound representative of Georgian wine on international market.
“We expect from this project to bring back to prominence Georgia’s important cultural heritage. We expect to make every Georgian proud of this project. We also expect to increase the appeal of Château Mukhrani to both national and international guests. We want them to come and experience this beautiful place, make fond memories in our garden and restaurants, and to relish our wines. We will introduce our visitors to an entirely new level of upscale hospitality,”, - Mr. Patrick Honnef, director of company Château Mukhrani declares and notes that there is still have a lot to accomplish.
“The renovation of the palace is just one milestone on this path. Restoration needs to be done in other areas of our territory as well. We plan to create a new parking area, renovate other buildings, and create areas for visitor reception and exhibitions. Apart from wine and hospitality, we have a strong cultural significance which we want to develop further and perhaps create a new range of activities that for me is dictated by the logic of this place. Château Mukhrani will become a must-see and must-be for all Georgian and foreign guests. Our goal is to be among the best Georgian wine producers, and to promote the great wine potential of Georgia internationally. Château Mukhrani is set to become a synonym of Georgian nobility and elegance”,- director of Château Mukhrani notes.
In total, the palace and its infrastructure occupy 16 hectares of land. Among its features are a forest, a French garden, a Georgian corner, a walnut alley, and a greenhouse. A major renovation and rehabilitation project is currently underway in the palace garden.
The palace interior design in a modern context is a magnificent work of internationally acclaimed designer Juan Pablo Molyneux, who creates worldwide famous luxurious interiors. Molyneux’s interior design refers to the past with a twist of the unexpected, combining fantasy and centuries old techniques, to evoke the atmosphere of history. Accoridng to Juan Pablo Molyneux, the age of Mukhranbatoni has been brought back to life in full glory in the ballroom, the dining hall, the apartment, the Oriental and European rooms, the conference and tasting halls, and the library.
“When I intervene in places full of history, my intention has been neither to reconstruct "historical" interiors, nor to reproduce lost architectural interiors. I am more concerned with evoking an atmosphere and regaining the spirit of grandeur and refinement that once governed their architecture and design.
I was very proud and honored to be asked for this prestigious restoration project. When you oversee a project like this, you must be humble. I am working with the existing building, not against it.
Château Mukhrani is a source of cosmopolitan architectural expressions which continues to capture the attention of every visitor”, - Mr. Juan Pablo Molyneux notes.
