Cold Storage Facilities Received GEL 8 Mln Income In 1Q23 - Geostat

In the first quarter of Georgia, cold storage facilities received GEL 8 million income from the services,- according to the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

According to the document, in 1Q023 the number of active cold storage facilities in Georgia was 210 and most of them were located in Shida Kartli region (67.6%). Active cold storage facilities were also located in Tbilisi (13.3%), Kvemo Kartli region (4.8%), Adjara AR (4.3%), Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region (3.8%), Imereti region (3.3%), Kakheti (1.4%), Mtskheta-Mtianeti region (1%) and Samtskhe-Javakheti region (0.5%).

In t1Q2023, the service was provided to 344 customers. The number of producers and resellers, from whom the products was purchased, amounted to 787 persons. Average monthly number of persons employed in cold storage facilities were 1 279.

In total 85.3 thousand tons of products were stored in cold storage facilities during the I quarter of 2023, of which 48.2% was chicken meat (including frozen meat), 23%– meat and meat products (including semi-finished products, excluded chicken meat), 13.4% – fish, 11.7% – fruit and vegetable, while remaining products had a small share.

In 1Q2023, the share of own production in the total volume of products stored in cold storage facilities was 21.1%, while the share of products purchased for further realization was 13.4% and the share of products stored as services was 65.5%. The service fee at the same period amounted to GEL 8.0 million.

In 1Q2023, the total cost of products (21.5 thousand tones) sold by cold storagefacilities amounted 107.5 million GEL, of which the share of imported products was 23.6 %, share of own production was 35.9 percent and the share of products (local) purchased for resale was 40.5%. Herewith, 60.4 % of own production sold by cold storage facilities was chicken meat. Significant share of imported products was Chicken meat (including frozen) (47.3%), meat and meat products (including semi-finished products) (33.5%) and fish (11.1%).

In 1Q2023, the value of products sold by cold storage facilities on the foreign market amounted to GEL 8.3 million, which consists 7.7% of the total value of products sold in the same period. Mostly chicken meat, fish, fruits and vegetables were sold on the foreign markets.

According to the survey results, the average daily load per storage (out of total storage capacity in percent) was 54.2 percent in January, 48.8 percent in February and 49.9% in March.
