COMCOM Is Preparing To Elect A Chairman

The Communications Commission (COMCOM) is preparing to elect a chairman. On January 20, the Commission will discuss the issue of the appointment of the Chairman of the Communications Regulatory Commission.

The office term of the current chairman Kakha Bekauri expires on February 3. Bekauri holds this position since 2017, and during this period the members of the commission elected him as the chairman twice.

The chairman of the Communications Commission is elected for a term of 3 years. Elections are held by secret ballot. According to the 2016 regulation it was impossible to elect the same person as chairman twice, but the change adopted in 2019, this restriction no longer applies.

The Communications Commission consists of five members elected for a term of six years. The members of the commission are: Vakhtang Abashidze, Natia Kukuladze - a member of the commission, Ekaterine Imadedze, Ivane Makharadze and Kakhi Bekauri, who is the chairman of the commission. The Parliament elected Kakha Bekauri as a member of the Communications Commission for the second term in December 2019. The resolution appointing Bekauri as a member of the commission came into effect on January 25, 2020.
