On Wednesday, April 3, Babken Tunyan, the head of the permanent committee on economic affairs of the Armenian parliament, announced the upcoming launch of the Amulsar gold mine, which is operated by the company "Lydian Armenia."
According to him, it is expected that the mine will start operating either by the end of this year or in early 2025.
Tunyan also noted that after the mine is launched, Armenia will not face a deficit of gold as raw material. This statement was made during the discussion of the project to introduce duties on the export of gold, platinum, and palladium bullion.
Recall that in June 2023, the leaders of Lydian Armenia and Lydian Gold Corp announced their intention to jointly implement the Amulsar project during a meeting with Armenia's Deputy Prime Minister Mger Grigoryan.
In January of this year, the Armenian government acquired a 12.5% stake in Lydian Armenia. The project aims to attract investments amounting to $250 million.
