The Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency has established a standard for total prices in the food service sector, in order to protect the interests of consumers. According to the Agency’s decision this standard requires all traders to provide the reference food menu in a clear and understandable manner, to make changes to the reference (food) menu and to provide the consumer with information about the ultimate or total price of the goods, which includes VAT and any other taxes, including service tax.

The Agency established the standard while investigating the "Lemon 2009" LLC (Restaurant - Republic) case, where the trader signed a commitment agreement with the Agency. To eliminate the alleged infringement of the Law of Georgia on the Protection of Consumer Rights, the trader agreed to make adjustments to the activity's internal policy, which he fulfilled.

For information: 60 applications for the protection of consumer rights were submitted to the Agency in January 2024. In the mentioned period, according to the Agency’s decision, a violation of 1 consumer group's rights was confirmed. Two traders were fined 1,200 GEL for failing to comply with the Agency's obligations. In 14 cases, 13 commitment agreements were signed in favor of the consumer.
