According to the Ministry of Interior of Georgia, construction works on Mestia Chala-1 and Mestia Chala-2 HPPs have been renewed. The decision was made after a working meeting between investors and Svaneti local communities, which meeting was attended by Kakha Sabanadze, First Deputy Minister of Interior and deputies of the Ministers of Economy and Agriculture. Participants of the meeting discussed the safety issues related to construction of MEstia chala-1 and Mestia Chala-2 HPPs.

According to the information, provided by the MInistry, representatives of the state authorities once again underlined that none of the HPPs will be constructed without close communication and agreement between the government and local population. As stated by Kakha Sabanadze, First Deputy Minister of Interior, development of energy capacities should not be done against the will of local population. “The increase of energy capacities serves to providing stability and safety of the population of our country in the first place.

The state on the one hand ensures development and uninterrupted construction process and on the other hand, protection of the population’s interests in this process and their involvement. We guaranteed the population that no construction will take place without taking into consideration their opinion,” – stated Kakha Sabanadze. In his turn, Archil Gachechiladze, Executive Director of Georgia Global Utilities (GGU), extends his gratitude to the local population.
