The owner of construction company “Bada Construction,” Bachana Adamia, has said that the flooding at Tbilisi’s Avlabari metro station was caused by damage to a key drainage pipe during roof cleaning works. Speaking to BM.GE, he explained that the incident occurred when workers accidentally damaged the main drainage channel.
According to Adamia, the damage led to water entering the metro station and causing temporary flooding. He added that the problem was later fixed, but said he does not yet know the exact scale of the damage.
“The main drain was damaged during cleaning, and that is what caused the incident. It was later repaired. I don’t know the exact amount of the damage. The roof was being cleaned by staff,” he said.
Authorities have not yet issued an official assessment of the incident or confirmed the extent of the disruption to metro operations.
