The issue of enhancing localized restrictions in light of the country’s epidemiological situation was discussed at today’s meeting of the Interagency Coordination Council chaired by Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia. The meeting was held at the Administration of the Government.
Discussions on enhancing localized restrictions are underway, with direct engagement from representatives of the business sector and other areas, and concrete decisions will be made in the nearest future. The Government seeks to hold consultations with businesses first and then make decisions that will, on one hand, mitigate damage to the economy and, on the other, will prove effective in managing the virus spread dynamic.
The meeting discussed the situation in hospitals and steps designed to ensure the effective management of the clinical sector. As it was pointed out, it is vitally important to ensure that persons in urgent need are not be left behind. The Health Minister stated during the meeting that therapeutic components have been at COVID hotels have been enhanced, including oxygen concentrator supplies managed by individual clinics through their personnel, to provide patients with easier access to necessary medical services. Milder cases are treated at home, in active consultations with family physicians. On the Prime Minister’s instructions, the Health Ministry is working actively toward mobilizing additional ICU beds.
The country is entering the peak of virus spread, the Coordination Council emphasized, and the current epidemiological situation, albeit difficult, is manageable and under control.
The meeting reiterated that facemask use and social distancing remain the key preventive measures against virus transmission, with relevant control by responsible agencies to be tightened.
The Coordination Council also discussed preparations for a vaccination phase. Work on preparing infrastructure for transporting and storing COVID vaccines is in full swing.
Since the first confirmed COVID case, Georgia has had 118,818 infection cases, of whom 92,215 have recovered and 1,051 have died.
Presently, 2,102 persons are quarantined, and 3,739 and 6,192 are in COVID hotels and hospitalized under medical supervision, respectively.
The Parliament of Georgia led by Speaker Archil Talakvadze, and the President’s Administration, are actively involved in the work of the Interagency Coordination Council under the Prime Minister.
