Tbilisi City Court Judge Jvebe Nachkebia has sentenced Anzor Kvaratskhelia to 4 years and 6 months in prison for assaulting a police officer.
The judge found him guilty under Article 353 of the Criminal Code, which covers assault on law enforcement officers. Kvaratskhelia was accused of throwing Molotov cocktails at police.
Before the verdict, Kvaratskhelia said: “Today I am proud that I stood by my country’s side. I still don’t understand what I’m being accused of.”
Kvaratskhelia was convicted of assaulting police officers during the November-December protests. His supporters are protesting the verdict with a performance outside the courthouse.
