The Tbilisi City Court has sentenced Badri Japaridze, one of the leaders of the political party Lelo, to eight months in prison for failing to comply with the requests of the Georgian Parliament’s temporary investigative commission.

Additionally, the court imposed a two-year ban on Japaridze holding public office.

The case was referred to the Prosecutor’s Office on March 25 after Japaridze refused to appear before the Temporary Investigative Commission tasked with examining the activities of the regime and political officials from 2003 to 2012.

The Tbilisi City Court imposed a 50,000-GEL bail on Japaridze as a preventive measure on April 5, which he paid within the deadline established by law.

Earlier today, the Court also sentenced Lelo leader Mamuka Khazaradze to eight months in prison and two-year ban on public Office.
