Credit limited issued by microfinance organizations doubles from May 16. According to the law on Microfinance Organizations, the maximum limit of credit issued by microfinance organizations to one borrower will be increased to 200,000 GEL. Until now, this limit was 100,000 GEL.
As explained by the National Bank, increasing the credit limit of MMFOs to 200,000 GEL will contribute to the growth of the sector.
Currently, 29 organizations operate in the microfinance market. In the first quarter of 2025, the total credit portfolio of the microfinance sector amounted to 1.55 billion GEL.
As of the first quarter, the largest share of the MFOs credit portfolio comes from pawn loans, which are mainly secured by gold and gold products. The total portfolio of these loans amounts to 1.17 billion GEL.
