To safeguard the health and rights of residents and tourists, the National Food Agency of Georgia is actively monitoring public catering facilities in resort areas.

Recent inspections have been conducted across 150 businesses, revealing critical non-conformities in ten establishments. These businesses were fined and their operations halted until the issues were resolved.

Inspections are ongoing in tourist-loaded regions such as Guria and Adjara, covering areas like Urek, Shekvetili, Batumi, Kobuleti, Gonio, Kvariati, Sarpi, and mountainous Adjara. The inspections focus on checking cafes, restaurants, hotel food blocks, bakeries, and fast food outlets for compliance with food safety regulations, including food dates, labelling, storage conditions, sanitary norms, and traceability.

The National Food Agency emphasizes the importance of informing the business sector and enhancing production practices through continuous recommendations, stakeholder meetings, and updates on food safety requirements.

The National Food Agency has conducted these rotating inspections during the tourist season since 2018.
