The Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNCC) does not expect tariff increase for the natural gas. David Narmania, Chairman of GNERC, declared about it to the reporters while talking about the impact of national currency devaluation on gas tariffs.

“We need to set natural gas consumption rates until the end of this year. Of course, the exchange rate affects the tariff, since we import large volume of gas from neighboring Azerbaijan. Thus, we take into account the exchange rate during the calculating the tariff. However, there are other factors that are also envisaged during the tariff calculation - these are investments, as well as the price of supply gas.

Therefore, it is difficult for me to say what impact exchange rate will have at this stage, but based on various factors and data, we do not expect a rise in the gas price, ”Davit Narmania said.

To remind, in the current natural gas consumer tariff, GEL rate is set at 2.66 against the USD, while according to the NBG, 1 USD costs 2.97 GEL.
