A very interesting conversation took place with the President of the European Commission; the talks focused on the joint efforts of the European Union and Georgia in the fight against the pandemic, - Georgian Foreign Minister Davit Zalkaliani said after a video conference between Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
According to David Zalkaliani, the President of the European Commission noted that Georgia and the European Union were very close friends.
"This was proved by our very close coordination and cooperation during the crisis, which is reflected in the specific results and tangible financial support that the European Union is providing to Georgia. The Prime Minister spoke about the measures taken by Georgia in the fight against the pandemic, which was followed by a very high assessment by the President of the European Commission. He noted that the European Commission would continue cooperation and financial support to Georgia,"- said Davit Zalkaliani.
According to the Minister, the conversation also touched upon the situation in the occupied territories of Georgia.
"The Prime Minister informed the President of the European Commission in detail that when the whole world was fighting against the pandemic, the occupation forces were carrying out the so-called borderization process. According to him, European support and European solidarity, which we have seen in recent days, are now more important than ever. We received assurances from the President of the European Commission that this support would be irreversible and clear in the future too.
Naturally, we talked about the ongoing reforms in the country. The Prime Minister spoke in detail about the economic and political reforms. The efforts of the Georgian government in connection with the election processes were highly praised by the President of the European Commission,” said Davit Zalkaliani.
He added that the implementation of the Association Agenda and the opportunities provided by the Association Agreement were also discussed during the video conference.
