2.5 million GEL will be spent on the tea plantation rehabilitation program in 2020-2024. Approximately 1,200 hectares of tea plantations will be rehabilitated in 4 years - Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture Levan Davitashvili said during the presentation of the Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia election program while talking about the farm development plan.
As Levan Davitashvili noted, the tea plantation rehabilitation project started in 2016, and the results are impressive.
"Traditionally, one of the distinctive fields for us was the direction of tea, especially in western Georgia. We have started rehabilitating the existing tea plantations. The results are impressive. In the next 4 years, we will continue to invest millions of GEL and rehabilitate new plantations on more than 1,200 hectares, "- said Levan Davitashvili.
In his speech, the Minister of Environment and Agriculture stressed the importance of the state's measures for the development of the agricultural sector in the field of food safety, veterinary and plant protection.
"It is essential to develop food safety, veterinary and plant protection, which we have been doing with special actuality in recent years. You can all see how much work has been done in this direction.
We had a significant challenge in quarantine pest control. Georgia defeated the tortoise beetle, which is still an insurmountable challenge in many countries in terms of agriculture. We will continue to fight plant pests in an organized manner and develop phytosanitary capabilities.
We will also have important measures in food safety, which will focus on researching many thousands of samples and increasing food reliability, which is very important for the local market and the use of export potential.
At the same time, important activities in the field of veterinary medicine will continue - this is free vaccination, to make the veterinary background more reliable in the country, to take steps in the field of livestock, to make investments, to produce more products and to accept these products in both local and export markets" - said Davitashvili.
