The National Bank of Georgia published a report. According to the document, the volume of deposits of non-resident individuals in Georgian banks amounted to GEL 7.3 billion as of October, which was GEL 213 million more than the previous month. During the last one year, the size of deposits of this category increased by GEL 1.1 billion, and in the last 2 years by 3.2 billion GEL. The main contributor to the increase is the bank transfers of people who emigrated from the Russian Federation.
According to the annual report of the National Bank of Georgia, 37% of non-resident deposits (2.4 billion GEL) accounted for citizens of the Russian Federation, while deposits of Ukrainian citizens amounted to GEL 400 million, and deposits of Belarusian citizens amounted to GEL 200 million.
Individuals keep a total of GEL 25.7 billion in Georgian banks, therefore, among them, deposits of non-residents make up 28%.
Non-residents keep their savings mainly (85% of deposits) in foreign currency, while the share of foreign currency in the deposits of Georgian residents is 60%.
