The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is supporting the expansion of logistics services in Georgia by extending a €3 million loan to Gebrüder Weiss LLC, a provider of logistics and transportation services.
The EBRD’s investment will finance the expansion of the company’s A-class intermodal logistics terminal near Tbilisi. The EBRD financed the construction of the terminal in 2013.
Georgia is considered an important transit hub for the Caucasus region, and its logistics and transport industry has grown significantly over the past decade. The country’s transit potential is expected to grow further, as the country’s economic outlook is positive.
Gebrüder Weiss is one of the top logistics companies in the country and is currently experiencing a rise in both traffic volumes and customer demand. To meet this growth in demand, the company needs to expand its logistics terminal, strategically located near Tbilisi International Airport, as it is currently operating at full capacity.
The new terminal facilities will be built in accordance with latest European Union energy performance requirements for buildings, supporting Gebrüder Weiss’s resource and energy-efficiency goals and bringing more modern and sustainable infrastructure to the Georgian market.
Gebrüder Weiss LLC is a subsidiary of Gebrüder Weiss GmbH, a global transport and logistics firm headquartered in Austria.
To date, the EBRD has invested almost €5.3 billion in 296 projects in the financial, corporate, infrastructure and energy sectors in Georgia.
