European Commission will make a decision on opening negotiations with regards to the EU accession of Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia by the end of the year, said Charles Michel, President of the European Council, during the press conference jointly held with President of Moldova Maia Sandu, on 28 March in Chișinău.
“In the following months, the European Commission is supposed to publish the next report regarding the EU accession of Moldova, Ukraine and the European Perspective for Georgia, also the debates with regards to the Western Balkans. Also, I would like to reconfirm clearly to re-appeal in the capacity of the European Council to put the topic on the agenda by the end of the year.
It means that, by the end of the year, the Council will have to decide on the opening negotiations with those countries. It will be a political decision taken taking into account the report that will be published by the Commission. And I sincerely hope that a positive decision will be possible by the end of the year,” Charles Michel said.
