Energy expert Gia Arabidze believes that the Ministry of Energy of Georgia should be restored.
As he told BM.GE, abolishment of the ministry is one of the factors that hampered construction of new hydropower plants in the country.
“There is a desire, but unfortunately definite decision that we will start construction of hydropower plants tomorrow is not taken yet. The first problem is guaranteed purchase agreements with its positive and negative sides. The second leading problem is public opinion and their readiness for these constructions.
And the third and very important problem is abolishment of the Ministry of Energy, as it has hampered new constructions”, - Gia Arabidze notes.
To remind, the Ministry of Energy of Georgia has been abolished in 2017 within the frame of government structural reform and its functions have been merged with the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development.
