The so-called Enguri bridge has been opened today in the direction of occupied Abkhazia, - State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality of Georgia Tea Akhvlediani said after the government session.
As the State Minister noted, moving to the territory controlled by the central government of Georgia will initially apply to certain categories of persons.
"After almost a year of restrictive regime in the direction of occupied Abkhazia, the so-called checkpoint on the Enguri Bridge has been opened today, which will allow the population of occupied Abkhazia, initially certain categories, to cross into the territory controlled by the central government. Every such development and step aimed at alleviating the situation of our population is unequivocally welcomed. The Georgian government is using all the levers and mechanisms at its disposal, with the involvement and mediation of international partners, to make every effort to ensure the fundamental right of our citizens to free movement," Akhvlediani said.
