On 5 June, to mark the World Environment Day, the EU Ambassador Andrea Wiktorin visited Mirak Family Reforestation Nursery in Margahovit, Lori.

During this visit Ambassador Wiktorin officially announced the launch of the ‘EU4Enviroment: Green community – Resilient future’ project, followed by a symbolic tree planting ceremony, joined by local authorities and representatives of the Armenia Tree Project, which established the nursery.

During the course of the next three years, the project aims to establish tree nurseries to supply seedlings for urban greening initiatives in 15 municipalities in Shirak, Lori and Tavush, as well as the planting of 458,000 trees. To promote eco-friendly behaviour, 7,000 schoolchildren in the targeted communities will receive environmental education.
“Actions on climate change, environmental protection and sustainable development are at the heart of the European Green Deal and are among the main priorities of the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement,” said Ambassador Wiktorin. “We are convinced that going green is at the centre of economic recovery, hence the eagerness of the European Union to continue supporting in Armenia biodiversity conservation, climate change adaptation, renewable energy, sustainable waste management and other environmental projects.”
