The European Union announced on August 3 the extension of sanctions against Belarus due to its support for Russia's aggression against Ukraine.

The bloc said the primary objective of these new sanctions, which include a ban on exports of certain technologies, military goods, firearms, and ammunition to Belarus, is to counter the circumvention of sanctions previously imposed against Russia.

The EU has already implemented 11 sets of sanctions against Russia since February 24, 2022, some of which also included restrictive measures against Belarus, RFE/RL reports.
