A recent report by the European Center for Anti-Corruption and State Building Research highlights that Georgia faces risks of oligarchic influence. Although the country has only two billionaires, their combined wealth exceeds 10% of GDP, and one is a financier of the ruling political party.

The report notes that this concentration of wealth poses a significant risk, even in a country with relatively few oligarchs. It also criticizes the deterioration of media freedom in Georgia, while pointing out that budget transparency has remained largely unchanged.

According to the EU experts, these factors underline the ongoing challenges for governance and democratic oversight in Georgia, emphasizing the importance of monitoring and reform to reduce oligarchic influence.
