The closing event of the EU4Youth Skills and Knowledge for Youth Economic Empowerment (SKYE) Club took place in Zugdidi, West Georgia on 14 June.

The SKYE club was opened in 2019 and brought together more than 25 young people, who worked together to identify community problems and market opportunities, and then plan and implement community service-learning and social entrepreneurship-learning projects in response.

Youth club members managed to implement three projects and ten educational activities in their region, starting with photo competition on community problems and ending with excursions to different historical sites.

The youth club members received trainings in active citizenship, leadership, employability and social entrepreneurship.

“The SKYE club gave me skills and knowledge to become a more active citizen, support my community and engage more youth in this process,” said Tekla Jgarkava, SKYE club leader.

More than 50 people attended the closing event, including acting Mayor of Zugdidi Municipality Konstantine Kakava, the Head of the Youth Agency Revaz Charkviani and the Head of the Zugdidi Student Youth House Davit Shamatava.

The SKYE Club model is a youth-focused economic development model that brings together between and 10 and 25 young people (age 18-26). The SKYE clubs have been set up within the framework of the EU4Youth – SAY YES Skills for Jobs project, which is funded by the European Union and aims to contribute to jobs and self-employment among young women and men in Armenia and Georgia.

SKYE clubs have been implemented in nine target regions by World Vision Georgia since 2016.
