The first estimate for euro area exports of goods to the rest of the world in July 2023 was €227.8 billion, a decrease of 2.7% compared with July 2022 (€234.1 bn). Imports from the rest of the world stood at €221.3 bn, a fall of 18.2% compared with July 2022 (€270.4 bn). As a result, the euro area recorded a €6.5 bn surplus in trade in goods with the rest of the world in July 2023, compared with a deficit of €36.3 bn in July 2022. Intra-euro area trade fell to €211.8 bn in July 2023, down by 7.9% compared with July 2022, Eurostat, Statistical Office of the European Union said.
In January to July 2023, euro area exports of goods to the rest of the world rose to €1 663.0 bn (an increase of 2.3% compared with January-July 2022), and imports fell to €1 660.4 bn (a decrease of 8.4% compared with January-July 2022). As a result the euro area recorded a surplus of €2.7 bn, compared with €-188.1 bn in JanuaryJuly 2022. Intra-euro area trade remained almost stable at €1 584.2 bn in January-July 2023 compared with January-July 2022.
European Union
The first estimate for extra-EU exports of goods in July 2023 was €205.2 billion, down by 3.2% compared with July 2022 (€211.9 bn). Imports from the rest of the world stood at €200.3 bn, down by 21.5% compared with July 2022 (€255.3 bn). As a result, the EU recorded a €4.9 bn surplus in trade in goods with the rest of the world in July 2023, compared with a deficit of €43.4 bn in July 2022. Intra-EU trade fell to €322.9 bn in July 2023, -6.1% compared with July 2022.
In January to July 2023, extra-EU exports of goods rose to €1 492.0 bn (an increase of 2.9% compared with January-July 2022), and imports fell to €1 502.2 bn (a decrease of 11.4% compared with January-July 2022). As a result, the EU recorded a deficit of €10.2 bn, compared with €244.8 bn in January-July 2022. Intra-EU trade rose to €2 447.7 bn in January-July 2023, +1.1% compared with January-July 2022.
