The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Gharibashvili, made a statement on GDP growth rate in 2022. According to him, when communicating with "European friends and leaders", they tell him that they are "surprised" by the indicators of economic growth in Georgia.

According to the report published today by Geostat, in the first half of 2022, the country's economy grew by 10.5% compared to the same period of the previous year. According to Irakli Gharibashvili, at this time recession is fixed in other countries of the world.

"You know how difficult the situation is today in the world, not in our region. During the pandemic, the global economy shrunk, countries' economies suffered setbacks, and in 2020 we had a major economic downturn. You will remember that as a result of the rather bold, sensible and thoughtful steps we took last year, our economy grew last year at an unprecedentedly high rate of 10.8%. The pandemic has ended this year and it can be said that it is almost over and there is no longer such a challenge, but the biggest challenge of the twenty-first century is the war in Ukraine. This is a very big challenge for our region, our countries. For all of Europe and the world. The world economy is expected to shrink this year and a recession is expected in Europe, the situation is very difficult with energy prices, inflation is a big challenge across Europe and around the world, inflation is at a historic high and there is no tangible growth in other countries, including Europe.

As for our country, as a result of our reasonable and national policy, in the first 6 months up to June, we have a double-digit economic growth of 10.5%. This is a big exception in today's world. I have frequent communication with our Europeans, leaders, friends and colleagues, and they are very surprised how little Georgia managed to reach such strong economic growth.

As you know, GEL continues to strengthen and this helps to create more money in the country's economy. Business is very active, a lot of jobs are created, thousands of jobs, and we will support this trend as much as possible," says Irakli Gharibashvili.
