Eurozone trade deficit grows in January

Eurozone trade deficit increased to €30.6 billion ($32.7 billion) in January, the EU's statistical office said on Monday.

The trade gap widened from €8.8 billion in December 2022 and €30.2 billion in January 2022, Eurostat data showed.

Eurozone's exports of goods to the rest of the world increased 11% year-on-year to €222.9 billion in January, while imports from the rest of the world rose 9.7% to €253.5 billion.

Intra-euro area trade grew to €223.8 billion in January, a hike of 11.6% from last year.

The EU27's trade deficit grew to €34.6 billion in January, down from €38.6 billion a year ago.

The first estimate for extra-EU exports of goods was €198.6 billion, climbing 10.6% annually, while imports from the rest of the world stood at €233.3 billion, up 7%.
