Romeo Mikautadze, former Deputy Minister of Economy, has been stripped of multiple assets, including an apartment in Spain, three cars, luxury watches, gold bars and coins, according to Prosecutor Irakli Marshania. The confiscated property will be transferred to state ownership.

“The court fully accepted the prosecution’s evidence and found Mikautadze guilty on all charges, including various corruption offenses and illegal income legalization. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison. In addition to real estate, he lost a 15% share in the company ‘Nakhidur HPP,’ valued at 1.5 million GEL, as well as property in Tserovani,” Marshania said, as reported by Interpressnews.

The verdict was delivered on March 16 by Judge Nino Galustashvili of the Tbilisi City Court. Mikautadze had previously stated during the final hearing on March 13 that he wished to reach a plea agreement.

Although he denies the charges, Mikautadze said he is willing, for family reasons, including the upcoming birth of his grandchild, to admit to a non-existent charge, compensate for unclaimed damages, and formalize a procedural agreement with the prosecution.
