The Ferroalloy Association expects that several small enterprises might resume operations during the spring–summer period, when electricity prices in Georgia are typically lower. Speaking to BM.GE, the head of the Association said the sector remains under significant pressure, with only two major producers currently operating in a stable mode.

According to Nugzar Kevlishvili, global ferroalloy prices remain low despite a slight increase from last year. While prices have risen from around USD 950 to USD 1,150–1,200 per ton, he noted that this level is still insufficient for many plants to restart production.

“At the moment, only two enterprises are working steadily, while two others operate intermittently and face constant difficulties. Georgian Manganese and Manganum Georgia fortunately remain stable, producing and exporting goods,” Kevlishvili said, adding that the situation is challenging not only in Georgia but across the sector globally. Several plants in Europe and Asia have also shut down.

He expressed cautious optimism that conditions may improve in the coming months. “Even if prices do not rise, lower electricity tariffs in Georgia during spring and summer could allow a few small plants to restart operations,” Kevlishvili noted.
