Reinvestment accounted for 84% of Georgia’s $1.9 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2025, amounting to approximately $1.6 billion. Reinvestment refers to profits earned by foreign investors in local subsidiaries that remain in the country and are invested back into the same businesses rather than being distributed as dividends.

According to data obtained by BMG from Geostat, the financial and insurance sector attracted the largest amount of reinvestment, at $682 million. Wholesale and retail trade ranked second with $239.5 million, followed by transportation and storage with $147 million.

Geostat said it cannot disclose the names of individual companies receiving the largest amounts of reinvestment, as such information is confidential by component. Reinvestment is one of the main components of foreign direct investment.

Meanwhile, Georgia’s FDI declined by 21% to $750 million in the first half of 2026. FDI has fallen for two consecutive quarters, with preliminary data showing $468.8 million in the second quarter, 23.2% below the adjusted figure for the same period of 2025. Geostat said the decline was mainly driven by a decrease in reinvestment.
